Les Bruyeres Syrah Joe Chandellier, 100% Syrah, natural wine, Languedoc, medium bodied, spicy, lively Syrah with tons of freshness.  Located in St Côme et Maruejols, 12km from Nimes, the vines are north facing and benefit from cooling breezes which flow down from the nearby hills.  This helps to keep the acidity in the berries and enables Joe to make fresh youthful reds full of vitality and fruitiness. ‘Les Bruyeres’ is made with carbonic maceration which lasts for 8 days.  Aged in fibreglass, with just a small amount of sulphur added at bottling.  Medium in weight, with bright, plummy fruit, a touch of spice and just the right amount of rusticity. Bright and fresh enough for drinking on its own, but would also be a great partner to lighter meat preparations or a cheese board.  The wine has had a slight refermentation in bottle which adds a subtle froth upon opening although the wine is till fruity and fresh to drink, the delights of natural wine!

Joe Chandellier- bringing youth, energy, and dynamism from the Languedoc. Based in St. Côme à Maruéjols, situated in the Cévennes part of Languedoc in the South of France, Joé carefully tends to 5.5 hectares of vines, planted with Carignan, Amaron, Grenache and Syrah, some of which are over 100 years old.

Before establishing his solo venture, Chandellier worked under the tutelage of Alain Allier at the acclaimed Domaine Mouressipe. Alain Allier is himself a disciple of none other than Eric Pfifferling of L'Anglore, creating a lineage of winemakers producing naturally made, soft, utterly drinkable wines that have a concentration, yet a delicacy to them.

In 2019 Joé Chandellier ventured out to create his first independent releases. He has a staunch commitment to organic farming and a dedicated approach to natural wine production, creating wines that truly capture their terroir. Such attention to detail and commitment creates expressive wines that have the utmost purity. The only addition is a small amount of sulphur at bottling, if absolutely necessary, ensuring the wines are as authentic and unadulterated as possible.

His range of red wines includes three blends, all involving Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and/or a lesser-known Languedoc grape, Aramon. Use of whole bunch and carbonic macerations, and ageing in fibre glass tanks, ensures that it's fruit purity and lightness that takes centre stage, almost defying the climate in which they are grown.

In our opinion, this young winemakers status is definitely solidified as 'one to watch'. Don't miss these stunning wines, soon to be available at excellent prices online, or in our shop!

Bright with subtle delayed funkiness. Very drinkable, especially chilled.
