Ciro Classico Superiore A Vita 2014 organic wine, 100% Gaglioppo, very soft pressing yielding a deliciously soft and elegant Ciro. Often Ciro is too hearty, too much sun making for high alcohol, harsh tannins and too much extraction. A Vita have tamed this southern beast. A paler colour than most Ciro, the 2014 is soft, elegant, fruity and toasty. There is no oak in the maturation however, the tannins are fine and the texture delightful. Although the wine has 14% abv, it tastes like 12 with red fruits and subtle notes of spice, with a delightful salinity underpinning the wine. A cool red wine from the south, for grilled pork, this is magic.

Ciro is one of Italy’s most ancient wine producing regions. A Vita – To Life! (Cin Cin to that!) is a small property of 8 hectares with some vines just a stones throw from the coastline and others a little further towards the mountains.

Viticulture is all organic and natural, fermentations are spontaneous without additives and very little sulphites. The wines are crafted only from autochthonous varieties, some of the most ancient in Italy such as Greco Bianco and Nero, Magliocco and Gaglioppo.

The wines are a wonderful expression of the Mediterranean, with notes of wild scrub and herbs intertwined with the salt of the sea. The red Ciro is the most elegant example of this often overly rustic wine we have tasted.
