Epicuria Chardonnay DOMAINE DE LA ZOUINA. Lovely example of a lovely warm climate toasty Chardonnay. Interestingly the estate is owned by 2 French partners. Gerard Gribelin (ex chateau Fieuzal) and Phillipe Gervason ( L’Arrivet Haut Brion) noticed significant potential on a golf trip in 2001 and acted very quickly as by the end of 2002 they had formed a partnership and planted 65 hectares of vines!
A superbly crafted wine that shows the versatility of Chardonnay and of how harmonious its relationship with oak can be. (when not used in a clumsy fashion). A gorgeous bouquet of orchard fruits, custard and white flowers. Several months of barrel ageing delivers hints of vanilla toast with some sweet apple quince and almond on the palate.
