Fleur de Lotus NV, biodynamic blend of aromatic grape varieties Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, Riesling, Gewurtraminer and Muscat, it is perfect for Asian cuisine.  The grapes come from the flatter lands where the soils are mostly sand, shingle and silt with quite a high proportion of clay.  The terroir seems to have contributed to the delicious balance between richness and freshness in the wine.  The Fleur de Lotus, symbol of balance and harmony is a delicious aromatic wine.  It has wild honey, golden plums, citrus and baked apple.  It also has a spicy character balanced with fresh acidity and subtle pulpy texture.  For Gewurztraminer fanatics Fleur de Lotus is a must-try wine.  On the palate it tastes dry – the very low residual sugar of 3 g/l adds richness but not really sweetness.  They vinify exclusively in stainless steel so the wine retains the pure characteristics of the grapes and their freshness.

The Josmeyer labels are particularly distinctive. They are created in collaboration with different artists, they are designed to reflect the character of the wines they decorate.

Josmeyer was founded in 1854 by restaurant owner Aloyse Meyer who set about building on his father’s work in the wine trade.

Since then, the estate has passed through 5 generations of the Meyer family, with Jean Meyer responsible for switching the entire estate to organic and biodynamic culture. He is credited with elevating the estate to one of Alsace’s greats. After his death, his daughters Celine and Isabelle took over running of the estate. The 28 hectare estate is situated at Wintzenheim, and benefits from low annual rainfall, some of the lowest in France. Riesling and Pinot Blanc are given the largest sections of the estate, with Auxerrois, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Gewurztraminer also growing here. 5 distinct terroirs make up the estate, 2 of which have achieved Grand Cru status: Hengst and Brand. Once hand picked, the grapes undergo gentle pressing followed by natural fermentation in 100 year old casks, where they also receive some lees ageing. Josmeyer’s wines are characterised by freshness, complexity and minerality, with each of the 5 terroirs contributing to different expressions of the grapes. These are true wines of character, and though their labels may suggest a certain playfulness, they are certainly serious wines.

    We don’t normally leave reviews BUT we couldn’t not share how enjoyable we found this wine.
    It had such depth, and the perfect balance of being on the sweeter side without being more desert based or loosing character to overpowering sweetness.
    We would highly recommend and can’t wait to enjoy it again ourselves. Thank you
