Gea Rosso di Montalcino Paradiso di Frassina, Organic Wine, 100% Sangiovese Grosso, unique vineyard with music played to the vines, delicious and elegant Tuscan red. Grown on some of the best slopes on the estate, it would be highly unfair to consider this to be the Brunello’s inferior, it’s a brilliant wine in its own right, and a stunning example of what Sangiovese is capable of. Often when tasting Brunello di Monalcino, I feel a little disappointed. That’s not to say there aren’t superb examples (the Brunello from Paradiso di Frassina is excellent), but for such an exalted wine, there is all too often a lack of intensity of fruit and an over reliance on oak flavours. However Rosso di Montalcino can offer exceptional value for money in comparison with its big brother, and this particular one from Giancarlo Cignozzi is really delicious. The fruit is forward and vibrant, the texture perfect and the balance, spot on. This spends a year in old barrels and so no oak flavours but plenty of freshness. A delicious wine for lovers of Sangiovese and certainly value for the price considering it is less than half the Brunello!
