Grigiano Conero Riserva Malacari, Traditional Montepulciano from the Marche, big, bold, old barrels, long fermentation, delicious. The Starabba family have been making wine here since the 16th Century and are always noted as the region’s most traditional winery, using wild yeasts and natural fermentation, resisting the temptation to over extract and beef up the wines for international markets. Grigiano Rosso Conero comes from 40 year old vines on a famous hillside steeped in the history of Marchegiana wine production. Grigiano’s clayey, silt and rock soils yield a wine with a wealth of rich dark fruits, prunes and raisins over damson and blackberry. The fruit is interwoven with spice and vanilla from the lightly toasted oak. Montepulciano is perfectly suited to these coastal hillsides and Grigiano is certainly one of the best terroir in the region. Grigiano is a delicious glass of classic Montepulciano and a stunning wine for fillet steak!
