Judith Beck Blaufrankisch, organic wine, lively, fresh and very approachable natural red from Austria. This is a great example of how Austrian wines can have both finesse and drinkability, a deliciously light red made from Blaufrankish that really packs a punch with flavour. Dark cherry red, with a bright nose of blackberry fruit and a smooth, supple palate. The tannins are soft and the finish is spicy and fruity, not at all funky. We were recently lucky enough to be visited by her at our shop in Settle and we were really struck by the aromatic qualities of her wines. Despite her very calm and collected personality, her wines are electric and lively. The fermentation is natural in large wood barrels, and the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation. Enjoy on its own or most food.

Winery Judith Beck is a 15 hectare estate in Gols in Austria's Burgenland which has been farming biodynamically since 2007, aiming to respect the environment and produce the best quality grapes, using native Austrian varieties.

Judith Beck herself studied abroad at places like Cos d'Estournel in Bordeaux and Errazuriz in Chile but returned home to take over from her father and move the winery in the direction of natural winemaking. They encourage the formation of humus as a basis of healthy soils, using their own natural composts and cultivating grass between the rows. Herbal remedies are also used and the vines are maintained under the rhythms of the moon. In order to produce authentic wines, they also avoid inoculated yeasts of any kind, and minimise sulphur, fining or filtration, with her Bambule! range epitomising this philosophy. These are sentiments and ideas we like at Buon Vino and the wines are really delicious, fresh and also great value for money, from an up and coming area that is producing some really excellent produce.

I loved the Judith Beck Ink Zweigelt, so I was excited to try this – if you’re looking for something a bit lighter but still fruity it’s this.

It says it all in the description for this wine; really delicious, fresh and also great value for money. To add to that its packed with fruit and some complexity. The consensus after the first couple of sips was this would be perfect for Christmas dinner; it should hold its own and work well with the cranberry sauce.
5 stars, also had the JB Ink Zweigelt, also delicious but this one was more fruity and approachable

All of her wines are very well made and very approachable, without being overly simple or one-dimensional. Nice complexity.

    great east yet bold red

Love this wine from Judith Beck. Very easy to drink and great value. Extremely pleasant. Sweet, red berries fill the mouth followed by a gentle fizz and acidic kick. Paired with Roast Beef.

No stranger to Blaufränkisch (Weninger, Michael Wenzel, Tschida, Wetzer, Preisinger, et al), but I’d never tried Judith Beck’s; great for anyone after some slightly more challenging Austrian reds – high acidity, fruit forward, refreshing – almost lambic beer style in character!
