Marius et Simone Domaine Giachino, biodynamic wine, orange wine, 100% Jacquere, delicious easy orange, vibrant, fresh and fascinating. The standard Jacquere called Monfarina, a local variety, makes crisp, light fresh white wine which tastes of the mountain springs. Marius et Simone, (named after the Grandparents of David and Frederic, Marius Genton) the skin contact version made in tiny quantities is a different beast altogether. Although at the approachable end of orange wine spectrum it still has plenty of skin contact character aligned to the taut acidity of the white. Pithy, orangey, herbal and slightly earthy, Marius et Simone is a funky and delicious glass of wine, as natural as they come so you can drink it by the bucket load…oh wait, no you can’t, they hardly make any. Domaine Giachino was created in 1998 when Frédéric took over the 1,5 hectares family estate from his grandfather Marius Genton.

Later joined by his brother David, they progressively enlarged the estate to 9 hectares and enriched their vineyards with new grape varieties particular to their area of the Savoie. Their values and philosophy made a switch to natural and organic methods inevitable and this they did in 2006. The vineyards of Domaine Giachino are in Savoie, not far from Chambéry, on the hillsides of Mont Granier. The soils are moraine, clay and limestone; a specific geology to the area and source of the uniqueness of their delicious organic wines.
