Morellino di Scansano Antonio Camillo, natural wine, certified organic, 100% Sangiovese, fruity, tart, fresh, delicious.  Morellino di Scansano DOCG is an Italian red wine made in the hilly environs of the village of Scansano, in the Maremma region of coastal Tuscany.  Morellino is the local name for Sangiovese, the main grape of Tuscany.  Many people think that the name Morellino comes from morello (brown), the colour of the region’s horses.  The name may also come from the morello cherries which like the grape have a dark red skin  and juice with tartness and acidity.  Camillo’s Morellino is an early drinking wine, not too tannic and structured, with bright crunchy fruit, medium body and supple tannins.

Antonio Camillo worked for fifteen years as a cellar master in the most important estates in Maremma (the last eight at Poggio Argentiera).

Recently Antonio decided it was time to break way on his own and produce his own wine so he bought two vineyards totalling five hectares in the area between Sovana and Pitigliano (in the south of Maremma on the border with Lazio). He works with local grape varieties such as Procanico and Ciliegiolo, often underrated, but here allowed to shine in wines that are unmistakably Tuscan. He ferments with indigenous yeasts and eschews chemical intervention, practicing organic viticulture.
