Morgon Thibault Ducroux 2021

Morgon Thibault Ducroux 2021, Natural Wine, (organic conversion) 100% Gamay, natural ferment, carbonic maceration.  The wine spends 8 months maturing in old 225 litre foudre.  Morgon is probably the most illustrious of the Beaujo villages, with its mythical Cote de Py and reputation for fuller, more serious wines.  The Morgon from Ducroux comes from 50 year old vines.  Although still young, Morgon Thibault Ducroux has plenty of the depth you would expect and a layer of darker fruits and spice. The tannins are fine and the wine is beautifully balanced with excellent structure. A great example of this noble appellation, it will age well for 5-6 years or more.

Thibaut Ducroux is a new young winemaker based in Morgon.  He spent his formative years learning about wine making in work experience with some of the other natural growers in the region.  Now he has his own vines and produced his first vintage in 2019.  

Thibaut is a committed natural grower.  He is currently concerting his 5 hectares in Beaujolais Villages, Morgon and Fleurie to organic viticulture. The vines will be certified from this year.  He uses carbonic maceration and natural yeasts for fermentation.  There is no finings, filtration and very low levels of sulphites, generally about 30-35 mg/litre.

His wines are very classic Beaujolais from granitic soils.  Crunchy and fresh in youth, they will undoubtedly soften and become very silky after a few years in bottle.  Thibaut Ducroux is sure to build himself a fantastic reputation in Beaujolais as after only 3 years as a grower and wine maker, he is already achieving delicious results.
