Peceguina Branco Maladinha 2024 De facto organic white wine from Herdade de Maladinha in Alentejo although not currently certified the estate focuses heavily on sustainable viticulture, biodiversity, hand harvesting and careful vineyard management. The vines are grown on predominantly well drained schist soils encouraging deep root penetration reducing vine vigour helping to produce highly concentrated grapes.
The wine is a blend of Arinto, Antao Vaz and a few other local grape varieties. After being. hand picked early in the morning and transported to the winery in small crates to minimise any microbiological spoilage, the grapes go through a careful sorting process are destemmed, crushed and undergo a gentle pressing to retain freshness. Fermentation is in stainless steel and then a further maturation of 9 months also in steel prior to bottling. The wine exudes a combination of citrus, stone and tropical fruits with some crisp minerality and a lovely long finish.
