Picpoul de Pinet Chateau de la Mirande, prickly, fresh, easy drinking white wine, ideal for shellfish and lighter foods. This delicious little wine from Chateau de la Mirande is lovely easy drinking as aperitif, dry, crispy with good body and persistence. Picpoul de Pinet Mirande has a spicy aniseed bouquet, green fruits and herbs, is quite resinous with an ample mouth feel with savoury flavours of iodine, yellow plum and pepper; also a sharp prickle. Picpoul is an ancient grape variety which has the sort of green tinged fruit and crisp acidity one would associate with Muscadet, but with more vinosity. Grapes are harvested at night, pneumatic pressure, and must settling. Temperature controlled fermentation (14-16C) for 20-25 days in concrete tank. Traditionally drunk with the famous ‘huitres de Bouzygues’, (oysters) that are harvested from the adjacent Etang de Thau. Also shellfish platter, lobster, crayfish and grilled fish go very well.

Château de la Mirande is located in the commune of Castelnau-de-Guers not far from the Bassin de Thau, a salt-water lagoon dedicated to the cultivation of oysters and mussels.

The vineyard spreads through the Mediterranean garrigue with its thousand scents and is in part situated on slopes of red earth covered with pebbles which release the sun’s heat to perfect the maturity of Picpoul. The terroir Chateau de La Mirande is a clay-limestone mix on south-facing terraces with vines of between 30-100 years old. Traditional culture using cordon de Royat with green harvesting and organic viticulture (not certified) are at the heart of the estate's philosophy.

  1. Dr Edward

It has a delicate floral nose. A pleasant crisp mineral taste with delicate citrus notes. Perfect with fish, shellfish and creamy chicken dishes.

  2. David

First tried it in a Soho Square restaurant and loved it.
Researched the web for a supplier and found you after an aborted attempt elsewhere!
First class service ( missed Christmas because of a lazy ccourier ) but enjoyed it over the new year.

  3. Ellie

Fresh and clean while still interesting. Delicious.
