Pipeno Pais Tinto Maurizio Gonzales, natural wine, no added sulphur, 100% Pais, fantastic value light weight, characterful red from Chile. This Pais is from 200 year old bush vines. Grapes are destemmed and naturally fermented with no added sulhpur. The wine is matured in Rauli beech wood barrels. It is light in colour with a moderate 12% abv. The wine is lovely and textured with ripe bristling red fruits, very subtle hints of herbs and tobacco leaf. It is a versatile wine which could be chilled in the summer and is great value for money.

The old grapes and ancient traditions of the Maule and Itata in Chile are being well and truly rehabilitated. The Secano Interior (secano meaing 'dry land' or 'unirrigated') is the special DO for wines made from País or Cinsault in the area of southern Chile between the Mataquito and the Bío-Bío rivers. In the area, Maurizio Gonzales makes his traditional Chilean wines from 4 hectares of naturally farmed land. He has some 200 year old bush vines of Pais on volcanic soils as well as some Malbec and Carignan. He makes the wines in the old fashioned 'Pipas' without any intervention, or sulphur addition. Maurizio is committed to the revival of the ancient Pais grape which is now well and truly established in international markets as a fresh low abv red wine full of character and drinkability.
