Poiema Marzemino Vallagarina Eugenio Rosi, biodynamic, 100% Marzemino, artisan wine, animal scents, pure, long finish. Poiema is named after Eugenio’s daughter who was very ill at birth and nearly died. Now a healthy little girl, she helps Eugenio stick the labels on his bottles. This is unique red wine made by a true artisan. Its vibrant purple colour entices the drinker and leads to a unique nose of intense ripe cherry, wild raspberry, violets, almond and notes of cigar. The palate is impressive and showing an elegance and power seldom found in the Marzemino variety. The 30% of Uva Passita (shrivelled grapes) adds a richness and opulence that makes this an exceptional artisanal wine with special character. The silkiness of the wine makes it ideal with a range of foods from robust stews and grilled meats to Carpaccio and roast peppers! In the mountains they might have Bigoi (similar to the Veneto’s bigol: spaghetti and sauce of duck liver vegetables and herbs) or even strangolapreti (“priest strangler” gnocchi of spinach, flour, eggs and cheese). Eugenio makes beautiful hand crafted wines that truly express his artistic soul, his natural approach to wine making and to life.
