After a few months hiatus, we return with a fantastic Pop Up tasting and supper in our shop on Saturday the 24th February at 7pm. February is a big month for tasting in the world of natural wine and we are usually in the Loire value for a few days at the start of the month for the Salon St Jean (Renaissance des Appellation) and Dive Bouteille events in Anger and Saumur. These fabulous tastings in stunning surroundings showcase the finest Biodynamic and Natural growers from across Europe. It is an opportunity to taste new vintages and Cuvee from celebrated and emerging growers alike (many of which we sell of course) and the wine is always delicious. You have the opportunity to taste some pretty expensive stuff which would normally be out of reach in UK restaurants from fine Biodynamic Champagnes to top Swiss producers and Loire Wine Icons like the Savennieres Coulee de Serrant wine made famous by Nicolas Joly. They also put on great food for lunch at these events (Oysters at La Dive last year, see the photos) and superb artisan coffee to keep you awake after 5 hours of tasting. All of this for a mere 30 euros or so entry fee so put them in your diary for next year. After the day tasting, it is fantastic to wander into Anger and Saumur, two beautiful Towns which lie on the Loire River, where you find a vast array of natural wine bars, restaurants and generally gorgeous stuff to eat and drink. Last year, the bar across from the River in Saumur put on a ‘Fete des Huitres’, (Oyster party) and hundreds of wine people stuffed them in until about 3am washed down with many bottles of cloudy Pet Net and funky beers.Anyway, to honour these great occasions and also because we think the Loire produces some of the best in the world, our first Pop Up is based on wines and food from the region. The Loire is home to many famous natural growers and in many ways it is the spiritual home of the movement. We happen to have loads of amazing bottles which we want to open including some older vintages so this promises to be a tasting and supper to remember.
