Pormenor Branco 2023 Natural old vine field blend based on indigenous grape varieties Rabigato, Codego do Larinho, Gouveio and Malvasia Fina planted at altitudes between 450 and 650 metres on predominantly schist soils. A classic example of a wine made by Pedro Coelho exuding freshness and showing a much more restrained and elegant wine stylistically than many others made in the Douro.
Grapes are hand harvested, gently pressed and the juice is settled for around 24 hours.. Fermentation is then spontaneous using indigenous yeasts mainly in stainless steel with a very small proportion in French oak to add texture. There is no malolactic fermentation and although the wine is left to mature on it’s fine lees there is no batonnage (stirring)
The resulting wine is quite different from a rich, ripe Douro White with citrus led aromas, white flowers and green apple come through also. On the palate there is definitely notes of stone fruit and a salinity and wonderful freshness
