RASTIGNAC PINEAU DES CHARENTES BLANC NV Made by Chateau des Plassons from the Cognac region in France. For those not familiar with this type of wine in short fresh Ugni Blanc grape must (unfermented grape juice) is combined with Cognac eau-de-vie. The addition of spirit prevents any alcoholic fermentation of the must leaving the natural grape sugars in tact making it strong, sweet and delicious. The resulting “liquer”wine is then matured for 2 years in oak barrels to add further depth and complexity.
Could be considered a sweet white port alternative… It has some lovely peach, plum and fig on the nose with a touch of honey. Same on the palate with further notes of almond, prune and quince with plenty of vanilla coming through as well from the oak ageing.
