Riesling Schnait Weingut Knauss, organic, no added sulphur, zippy, fresh, dry, lovely aromatics, classic yet just a bit funky. Balanced acidity with a fresh lime twist. Riesling Schnait has hints of pepper, ripe fresh apple and winter spice on the finish. A wine which bounces effortlessly between easy, uncomplicated quaffability and classic Riesling aromatics and complexity. Excellent price for the quality.

Grower Information

Andi Knauss, who now is in his early thirties, started to work together with his father at their family estate in the Remstal region of Wurttemburg, east of Stuttgart in 2004 as the fourth generation wine maker.

Vineyard land here is expensive, but Andi has slowly built up the estate parcel-by-parcel, converting to organics after a stint learning the ropes in Austria. Today he makes wines from over a hundred different plots over 15 hectares of vineyards in Strumpfelbach. Terroir is limestone and Marl with altitude up to 400 m above sea level above the river Rems. Wine making is all natural, from yeasts to low sulphur, no fining or filtration.

Having had the pleasure of tasting some good Riesling in time over in Germany, this doesn’t disappoint at all. Far from it, light and refreshing and comes with a brilliant after taste, i couldn’t wait to have another sip. I’m ordering this again i enjoyed it so much and really recommend it if you like a light dry white wine with a really distinctive fruity taste.

Agree with the previous reviewer, having sampled a good few Rieslings in my time, I’m only too aware of how, those with lower alcohol volumes can taste cloyingly sweet given how little of the sugar has been taken up, however this remains perfectly balanced, even with it’s mild 12% ABV, so must be commended for representing fully the character of the fruit, rather than its sugar!

This is one of my favourite white wines from Buon Vino, i’ve bought this more than once and will likely continue to buy it as long as it is available. Its a really crisp taste and drink to start with with a very noticeable after taste that just makes you want to drink more and more. You could have this with a meal of your choice or on its own. I really recommend this wine!

Bought after a bottle in London in a top restaurant over lunch. Steely, clean and perfect with a Schnitzel. Riesling at its refreshing best.
