Theodora Gut Oggau, biodynamic wine, Gruner Veltliner, Welschriesling, dry, full, funky, tasty. The serious sister of Atanasius, Theodora Gut Oggau is serious wine, complex and intellectual with depth and body, intriguing aromas of under ripe melon, kiwi and yeasty notes. The wine is dryer than other years and more racy so for lighter more elegant fish dishes, it is excellent.

Gut Oggau is a 14 hectare Austrian wine estate located in the province of Burgenland by the Lake Neusiedl.

The estate is run by Eduard Tscheppe and his wife Stephanie, daughter of a 2 Michelin star restaurant owner. It is a certified biodynamic estate with each wine coming from a single plot of vines with different terroirs showing different expressions in the wine. The individual personalities of the wine are expressed in the faces on the labels created by Jung von Matt (German designer) and brought together in the Gut Oggau family tree. A unique and fascinating way of describing the wines, they taste every bit as intriguing as the labels suggest.

    Not very experienced with any type of wine, however this was the first ever natural wine I tried and I am slightly addicted to its flavours.

    Great golden colour. Clean and clear with
    Melon, apple, lemon. The subtlest fizz.
    Ends with a suggestion of beer-ish
    maltiness balanced by a hint of honey.
    Long lingering finish. Light enough for an
    easy drinking all-day summertime drink;
    complex enough to keep you interested.
    Restrained and elegant. Cool without
    trying too hard.

  3. Hannah

    This wine is so easy to drink, it’s like delicious fruit juice – tart apple spirngs to mind. Quickly became my favourite natural wine after just a few sips.
