Tragolargo Blanco, FINCA CASA BALAGUER, organic wine, natural wine, Moscatel and Merseguera, outstandingly good entry level orange wine for the price. Usually at this price point skin contact wine is a right mess, but we were amazed to find zingy fresh aromatics, zippy acidity and a good degree of balance between pithy, dry tannins, fruit concentration and just the right level of funk. The Moscatel gives the wine a grapey character and the skin of this versatile variety always adds great texture in orange wines. A triumph and a great place to start if you haven’t had orange wine before and don’t want to break the bank.

In every sense Finca Casa Balaguer is a garage winery based in the industrial town of Villena, inland Alicante.

For the last 10 years this young dynamic team lead by winemakers Andres Carull and Marta Ribera have been championing local varieties with the focus on maximum expression and minimum intervention. Building from the ground up the Finca Casa Balaguer winery has gone from strength to strength and is today one of the most highly regarded producers in the DO Alicante region. Production is certified organic and care of the vineyard is taken while respecting the environment. To control pests they use pheromones for sexual confusion and natural traps. Wine making is very hands off with limited filtration and fining and very low levels of sulphites.
