Velluto Valpolicella Meroni, pale, elegant, subtle yet vibrant, natural Valpolicella. This is all wild yeast ferment with no over extraction. The nose is delicate with little red berries and a velvety, seductive character which is classic Meroni. The palate is dry, medium, crunchy and satisfying. This is wine which takes you immediately to the rolling hills of the Valpolicella. Crafted by a true artisan in Carlo Meroni in the classic production method, it is traditional Valpolicella in the best sense of the word. There is a lot of pretty ropy Valpolicella out there, cheap imitations of the real thing are always disappointing but when you get a good one, it expresses Italian wine at its seductive best. Great with pasta, grilled pork, river fish or carpaccio.

I am not a big red wine drinker but was given this red last week and enjoyed it more than any other wine in years. It has a pale raspberry colour and a lovely soft light taste. Perfect to be enjoyed on it’s own in the sun on your patio.
