Radford Dale Frankenstein Pinotage, lush, rich, fruity, clean Pinotage - absolute must for lovers of the variety. Termed 'Frankenstein' as a tongue in cheek reference to Pinotage's laboratory birth as a hybrid of Pinotage and Cinsault, this Pinotage goes to prove that not all experiments are as disastrous as those of Dr Frankenstein. Pinotage isn't for everybody and it often does have a very dry, tar like astringency. But from low yielding vines in Helderberg with 24 years of age, this wine manages to show Pinotage's rich lush fruit and keep in check those less desirable elements of the variety. Semi-carbonic maceration and part wood fermentation aim to preserve fruity aromas and freshness and keep the oak under wraps. The result is the best Pinotage we have ever tasted and is a wine with its own genuine personality and style. Despite the name, monstrous it is not, rich, fruity and drinkable it is!

Radford Dale combines modern winemaking and traditional values to create some of the finest, rarest wines in the Cape. It’s all about quality, and the philosophy is simple: to produce reference South African wines with as little pretense and compromise as possible.

These wines are strongly site-driven, natural and balanced. Radford Dale believe South African wine should reflect the individuality of the local terroirs, rather than being driven by the globalisation and flavour standardisation of a medal-winning mentality.

Whilst the wines are without doubt fruity, rich and full bodied, there is more personality here than in many of their Cape contemporaries.
