Rivaner Clos des Eglantiers Bastian, off-dry, crisp and grapefruit-y. Rivaner is a hybrid grape variety of Riesling and Sylvaner, so is often popular among Riesling lovers. This one from Domaine Mathis Bastian is of our favourite little wines at this price, it puckers up your taste buds with zippy acid which perfectly balances the natural residual sugar and crispy fruit. Lovely pineapple notes, fresh orchard fruits and something a little bit floral. The ideal aperitif. Try it with some fresh asparagus, a garden salad or some salmon cooked with something a little sweet, delicious.

Domaine Mathis Bastian, a regular visitor to the Guide Hachette comprises 11.7 hectares of vines on chalky soil located on the exposed slopes of Remich Primerberg overlooking the Moselle. Luxembourg is one of the coolest wine growing areas in Europe, and produces mainly Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Rivaner. Mathis and his daughter Anouk make use of state-of-the-art technology to produce wines that echo the traditions of this lesser-known wine growing regions, respecting the environment and creating a sustainable model. Combined with low yields, they produce wines of finesse, that are clean and approachable.
