Sauvignon de Touraine PIERRE-OLIVIER BONHOMME, organic wine, wild and mineral Sauvignon Blanc, low in sulphur, rich in flavour, depth, freshness. Thierry Puzelat was the guy who started this domaine now taken over by Pierre Olivier Bonhomme but retaining the style and quality of the wines. Thierry has been not unnaturally, described as the 'Pope of un-sulphured wine'. He certainly doesn't hold back and his wines have at times seemed a little too whacky even to the fully initiated whacky wine nuts like myself. However, the white and in particular this Touraine has got a little less funky the last couple of vintages, and the 2015 is his best yet. It retains that sense of the wild and the untamed but a brighter, fresher crispier natural Sauvignon, you are unlikely to find at this price. It has a fabulous light gold in color, the nose is initially dominated by walnut notes, but these largely give way to vivid fresh fruit elderflower, apple, quince and grapefruit. Freshness, lots of acidity, subtle mineral notes, and hints of honey and herbs provide ample complexity. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, round, with excellent snappy acidity. Flavours that echo the nose are enhanced by a Savennières-like minerality, giving the wine substantial interest and a mouthwatering quality. The finish is very good, with light notes of hay lingering. Top, top Touraine Sauvignon, makes the NZ equivalent seem positively lifeless!

Crisp, fresh and lively start, lots of citrus fruit, touch of honey, smooth and round to follow and a really satisfying and mouthwatering finish. A real bargain too.
