Details

The Soliti Merlot from the Araldica Cooperative winery is made in relatively small quantity from fruit on south facing slopes, it is dry but soft and plummy with plenty of body and crunchy fruit character. We don't have many wines on our site from Cooperatives, after all we believe in our artisans. However there are one or two who a bit different, Les Vignerons d'Estezargues make fantastic regional french wines naturally and Valli Uniti in Piemonte are a very small Biodynamic operation. Araldica are also based in Piemonte and although they cannot claim to make natural wine or to be artisan (they make 20 million bottles are year of many different wines and labels), one has to tae their hat off to Claudio Manera and his team and say with all honesty, these wines are not too shabby! The price is extremely attractive due to the volume and having been to visit Claudio and eaten heartily with his producers inside the winery at Cascinone, i realise that this is a man with the soul of the artisan brought up amongst the vines and with decades of experience with old school Piemontese growers behind him. They manage to produce all these bottles with a little intervention as possible, much of the fruit is still hand harvested and Claudio runs the cellar with an eagle eye for detail. If you fancy a glass of inexpensive fruity wine for not much more than a fiver then Araldica is for you.
