Details

Testalonga El Bandito King of Grapes, Natural, spicy, funky, earthy, fruity, Grenache, Craig Hawkins. The deep earthy notes on the nose eventually give way to bright red berry flavours. A light red/opaque colour (a result of an unusual colour defect in this rare strain of the Grenache variety) not too dissimilar to a red from the Jura in appearance. The flavour is very spicy with tannins to give some balance to the spice. Deliciously fresh and unusual Grenache, don't let the colour deceive you, there is depth in this unashamedly natural beauty!

Craig Hawkins is a young winemaker based in the Swartland, South Africa, where he rents about 11ha of vineyard. Having travelled extensively throughout Europe, he now makes makes 8 wines under his own Testalonga label and has taken over the winemaking at Lammershoek. Each vintage is experimental and we think they're getting better each year. These are beautiful natural hand-crafted wines from low yielding vines, wild ferments and nothing added except a little SO2 at bottling.
