Details

Verduno Pelaverga Burlotto, classic Piemontese variety, natural wine, essence of the Langhe, lighter than Nebbiolo but with the texture to match meat or fish. This little unknown variety has a popular following in the Langhe and wherever you find Barolo lovers. It a Piemontese wine to keep in the fridge (but equally, it will polenta and fennel sausage very well) and drink on a warm day in the garden with some salumi or spicy fish dish. Pelaverga is a rare grape growing only really in two region of Piemonte, Verduno and Saluzzo but it dates back to the 15th century. Although it is also eaten as table grape and is oft described as simple, lightly scented strawberry wine, Burlotto's has a lot more to it. The wine has the sense of the Langhe, a feeling of earthiness underneath the delicate floral and red fruit aromas. It ages nicely up to 3-5 years and can have up to 14% abv and pretty decent body. A delicious and quirky wine and very easy to enjoy.
