Details

Vernaccia di San Gimignano Montenidoli Tradizionale, organic wine, 100% Vernaccia, Tuscany's signature white grape, nutty, mouth tingling white wine, great for sea food. Vernaccia Montenidoli is an organic Vernaccia with a deep brassy gold colour with an intriguing bouquet of honeysuckle and butterscotch mingled with minerality and some white pepper. On the palate the wine is minerally with lovely taught acidity and some butterscotch laced warmth. The finish has a crisp gun flint bitterness to it, clean slightly bitter and savoury. Montenidoli dispels the myth that Vernaccia is a dull grape producing neutral wines. With age these natural bottles become very complex and even more interesting.

Montenidoli, 'the mountain of little nests', 24 hectares of vineyards surrounded by 200 hectares of woodlands. The Etruscans were the first to discover this treasure and plant vines, then came the Romans and the Knights Templar. Elizabetta and Sergio Faguioli arrived in 1965, heirs to a long farming tradition. The vineyards and olive trees were overgrown and abandoned and needed a great deal of work to bring them back to life. This was done according to organic principles and the first vintage was born in 1971. The wines display a true sense of 'Terroir', which is a complex soil high in calcareous deposits which imparts personality and strong minerality to the flavour. These white wines are subtle and complex and age beautifully to produce rich, golden nectars.
