Willunga 100 Cabernet/Shiraz, outstanding value red from Australia. A smooth blend of the Cabernet tannins coupled with rich cherry and spice from the bolder Shiraz with a smooth lingering finish. Finding good red at this price from down under nowadays is not all that easy but here you have everything you would want from Aussie red in body, intensity and depth but with good balance, freshness and subtle use of oak maturation. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes mostly come from the Azzolino vineyard's 30 year old vines grown on irrigated clay over loam soils in the Willunga foothills, and the Shiraz comes from the Mary Gordon vineyard which was under conversion to biodynamic certification at the time of harvest and has since achieved this. The vines are 15 years old, located in the Sellicks Hill sub region. Maturation for up to 18 months in a combination of new and old barrels and stainless steel provide a lush yet fresh mouth feel and complexity of flavour. /p>

Taking their name from the historic administrative region of Willunga (Hundred referring to the number of square miles), they specialise in top quality McClaren Vale Grenache, a grape often used for blends. The soils in McLaren Vale are among the oldest in the world, estimated at over 500 million years. The resulting low vigour and old vines combine to produce low yields in the vineyard and stunning, concentrated fruit. Led by winemaker Mike Farmilo who has over 40 years experience of working in the area, their small team produces a range of exceptional value and quality wines.
