Winifred Rose Gut Oggau, Biodynamic Rose wine from Gut Oggau, 60% Zweigelt, 40% Blaufränkisch. light,, youthful but full of flavour and delightful intricacies. Winifred offers a delicious bouquet, vibrant, open and youthful, animating, charming and innocent. Easy and very likeable on the palate, good and sociable, but a bit mischievous. Am i talking about the wine? Or is this Winifred? Whatever, this is lovely, dry rose and impossible not to enjoy.
Gut Oggau is a 14 hectare Austrian wine estate located in the province of Burgenland by the Lake Neusiedl. The estate is run by Eduard Tscheppe and his wife Stephanie, daughter of a 2 Michelin star restaurant owner. It is a certified biodynamic estate with each wine coming from a single plot of vines with different terroirs showing different expressions in the wine. The individual personalities of the wine are expressed in the faces on the labels created by Jung von Matt (German designer) and brought together in the Gut Oggau family tree. A unique and fascinating way of describing the wines, they taste every bit as intriguing as the labels suggest.

I served this at a rose-oriented supper club. It was such a deep pink it surprised everyone and it was kind of unfair to the other wines as everyone seemed to fall in love with the colour before even tasting.
Layers of red fruit on the nose plus actual rose, even rosewater like Turkish delight came through. On the palate that sweet ripeness was beautifully balanced by acidity, and a bit of red apple crunch.
It was basically perfect for the combination of charred, pink lamb and salsa Verde, especially on such a hot evening.
The bottle emptied very fast. If I could afford it I would drink this all the time.
